🍳 Breakfast served hot to guests—think French toast, eggs, and bacon
🍺 Old-school tavern atmosphere: darts, jukebox, pool table, and locals at the bar
🦜 Resident dog Ella and parrot Sweet Pea make the rounds
🔥 Steps from Belleayre Mountain and the creek (plus a late-night crowd)

Important Information:

✔ Book by phone, pay cash if possible; staff respond best to a direct chat

Haley's Pick 🍽️

You probably know her as @milehighandhungry. Each week, Haley shares the one place she’s obsessed with right now. From hidden gems to hot new openings, if she picks it, it’s worth the hype.

Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.

The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.

Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.

It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights

🍽️ Tito’s Tip: Skip the drive—there’s a beloved Mexican spot right across the street for lunch or dinner after skiing or hiking.

🦉 Quiet Room: If a light sleeper, ask for a back-facing room—the bar crowd can get lively on weekends.

❄️ Winter Quirk: Stash boots on the porch—mud and slush can pile up at the entry in snow season.

🐕 Resident Dogs: Ella and other house pets have run of the main floor—great for dog lovers, but it’s good to know if you stray from your room at midnight.

What folks are saying

Based on the 50 most recent Google reviews
Guests call the Colonial Inn quirky, wildly unique, and fiercely welcoming, with staff who treat visitors like old friends and stories traded at the bar. Cleanliness gets mixed marks—common spaces are tidy, but some rooms feel dated, musty, or in need of repairs. Beds range from soft to lumpy; water pressure and hot showers win approval. Strongest praise goes to the owners’ hospitality, dogs, and the throwback vibe, while some visitors dislike the clutter, older décor, or late-night noise. Best for travelers looking for character over polish and hungry for a dose of local life.
