Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.
The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.
Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.
It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights
🖐️ Front Counter Ritual: The line forms quick on weekends—order a croissant and latte first thing and settle in; it moves faster than it looks.
🎹 Three Dining Zones: There's main seating, a tucked-away outdoor courtyard, and quieter tables in the shop next door—great for working or a casual catch-up.
🍲 Soup & Special Rotation: Ask about the soup of the day and rotating baked goods if you want to snag something off-menu before it sells out.
🥚 'The Hottie' Hack: For heat lovers, double-check your order has the house hot sauce—sometimes you have to ask for an extra hit.

What folks are saying

Based on the 50 most recent Google reviews
Village Coffee and Goods is celebrated for its excellent coffee, creative pastries, and quality breakfast and lunch plates, with many praising the fresh croissants, standout espresso drinks, and thoughtful use of local ingredients. Crowds mention the handmade ceramics for sale and the light-filled spaces—both inside and in the courtyard—make it a steady favorite among Kingston locals and weekenders alike. Guests love the vegetarian and vegan choices, but note higher pricing and sometimes spotty order accuracy; service is friendly more often than not, but can be rushed during busy spells. Despite these minor quibbles, most agree the quality, seasonal food, and coffee set a high bar for the region.
