Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.
The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.
Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.
It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights
🥚 Best Breakfast Move: Follow coffee aromas to Main House Café early—breakfast wraps run out fast on weekends.
🏊 Poolhouse Perks: Pool House rooms have the quickest swim access—and get quieter in the late afternoon when families head out.
🔥 Campfire Ritual: S’mores kits are handed out at dusk; the lower big pit often sees less action if you want quiet and stars.
🌄 Out-the-Door Trails: Try the dirt road to Gulf Road for a mellow walk—wildflowers in June, foliage peaking late September.

What folks are saying
.svg)
Based on the 50 most recent Google reviews
Guests love the relaxed, easygoing atmosphere, friendly staff, and broad mix of room styles—A-frames, modern lodge rooms, and poolside stays all get praise for comfort and calm. People call out snacks at the café, the firepits, and the Conover Club restaurant as highlights. Grounds are kept up year-round, and the saunas and pool are favorites from May–October. Most guests find the unplugged rooms refreshing but mention small bathrooms, limited in-room storage, and sometimes basic amenities (no TV, no minibar). Service is sincere and helpful, but some guests feel shorted during busy weekends or if an issue falls through the cracks. Pool can get crowded with families in high summer. Occasional complaints about maintenance, rare odors, or inconsistent follow-up during peak dates. Locals and visitors alike say it’s a great spot for family gatherings and small weddings.
