Haley's Pick 🍽️

Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.
The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.
Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.
It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights
🌄 Best Cabins: Ask for a riverside unit for waterfall sounds and a leafy view—some rooms land closer to parking.
🛶 Swimming Hole: Millstream Swimming Hole is an 8-minute walk for a dip in the clear creek, even in early fall.
🎷 Late-Night Eats: Hit Silvia or Dixon Roadside for late supper; both are within five minutes on foot and open after most spots wind down.
🔥 Firepit Ritual: S’mores and stargazing by the main firepit start around sunset—catch it early before wood runs low.

What folks are saying
.svg)
Based on the 50 most recent Google reviews
Guests consistently praise the peaceful location next to the waterfall and walking distance to town. Rooms feel modern yet grounded, with highlights like heated floors, record players, and private balconies or patios. The self-serve model is noted—staff are friendly and quick to help during office hours, but late arrivals require using codes or remote check-in. Cleanliness and comfort rate highly, though a few travelers point out issues with room assignment, some units with less-desirable views (like the parking lot), and added resort fees that can feel steep. Most guests leave with lasting appreciation for the ambiance, dog-friendly policy, and easy access to Woodstock’s restaurants and music. The main drawbacks mentioned are high nightly rates, underwhelming coffee service on occasion, limited onsite amenities (no gym, restaurant, or pool), and service hiccups outside desk hours. Still, repeat stayers and couples point to the setting, unique details, and quality beds as reasons to return.
