Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.
The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.
Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.
It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights
🥙 Late Lunch Favorite: After 1:30 PM, the lunch lines thin and the sun drifts through the front windows—easy for a long meal.
🍷 Sips and Sweets: Grab a glass of house wine or a cold Greek lager with a crepe for dessert; few spots in town do both.
🧆 Custom Plates: Ask for a mixed plate—gyros, falafel, and salads together—if you want to try a bit of everything.
🥗 House Dressing: The house Greek salad dressing is a local staple; ask for extra on the side to save for later.

Opa! Gyros earns steady praise for hearty gyros, crisp falafel, sharp feta, and a menu that works for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Regulars point out the fair prices, big portions, and unfussy energy in the dining room. Service is mostly friendly and efficient, though a few reviews mention lapses when it gets busy or near closing. Most diners find the food fresh and lively, while a handful note occasional inconsistencies in entrees or platters. The outdoor tables and easygoing staff help seal its spot as a lunch favorite in uptown Kingston.
