Haley's Pick 🍽️

Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.
The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.
Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.
It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights
🚗 Early Lot Grab: On busy weekends, Lot A fills first—arrive before 9:00 AM for parking up top by the lodge.
🏔️ Ridge Runs: The North Face double’s fall lines keep chalky snow late after storms; glades open quick, go early after powder.
⏳ Corduroy Alert: Groomers often set soft, fresh cord on Lower Face and Sundown first — hit them before 10:30 AM for best turns.
🍻 Upstairs Bar: The lodge’s second floor bar is the mellow spot for a real pint and local stories, even when the cafeteria crowds up at noon.
What folks are saying

Based on the 50 most recent Google reviews
Regulars call Plattekill the Catskills’ true independent—terrain has punch, with memorable steeps, winding blues, legit glades, and reliable snowmaking even in lean winters. Grooming gets high marks, and crowds are lighter than nearby resorts, though a full lodge does mean the cafeteria gets busy at lunch. Most praise staff friendliness and a lively community atmosphere. Popular for families, but advanced skiers find plenty of challenge when everything’s open.
