The Old Catskill Game Farm settles quietly into overgrown hills, its former zoo paths winding by wild grass and animal barns turned inn. Branches tap the windows and low voices carry from the fire pit, while dusk finds shadows flickering across vintage signs and animal murals.

What to Expect:

🦒 Stay in the reimagined Long Neck Inn—animal-themed rooms, private baths
⛺ Campsites scattered across the old zoo, some secluded, some near ruins
🔥 Evenings around the fire pit under a big sky full of stars
🚶‍♂️ 200 acres of trails, abandoned habitats, and offbeat photo ops
🐐 Farm eggs and the occasional goat meet-and-greet with the host

Important Information:

✔ Reservations highly recommended, especially weekends and summer
✔ Some buildings and campsites are rustic—expect stairs, gravel, uneven terrain
✔ Pet-friendly policy for both inn and most campsites
✔ Call or book directly for large groups or special events

Haley's Pick 🍽️

You probably know her as @milehighandhungry. Each week, Haley shares the one place she’s obsessed with right now. From hidden gems to hot new openings, if she picks it, it’s worth the hype.

Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.

The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.

Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.

It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights

🗝️ Best Room: The Giraffe Suite is the most requested—it faces morning light and keeps pieces of original zoo architecture.

🐾 Wild Neighbors: Expect to see deer on early walks, and sometimes the neighbor’s goats wander past the inn.

🥚 Sunrise Bonus: Ask the host for fresh farm eggs—they’re often waiting in the kitchen fridge when you arrive.

🦶 Exploring Ruins: Bring boots for safe wandering—overgrown paths and old animal pens can be muddy, especially after rain.

What folks are saying

Based on the 50 most recent Google reviews
Guests are drawn to the nostalgia and character—unique rooms inside the old giraffe barn, clean spaces with animal-themed details, and grounds made for wandering. People praise the friendly, story-filled host and the rare chance to explore the whole 200 acres. Reviews lovingly mention campfires and starry nights, visiting goats, and how much kids and groups enjoy the space. A handful note rustic elements like outhouse-style facilities at distant sites and some uneven paths, but most find it adds to the adventure.
