Haley's Pick 🍽️

Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.
The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.
Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.
It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights
🍂 Best Picking: Early September brings crisp Honeycrisp and Galas, but late September and October are best for classic apples and the corn maze.
🚗 Take It Slow: The U-pick is drive-through—bring your own sturdy boxes and gloves, and expect dust on busy days.
🌱 Chestnut Tip: Chestnut picking is rare — look for them freshly fallen on the ground, and only gather what’s down (not from trees).
🍨 Last Call: Farm store soft serve and cider donuts start to run low by late afternoon on fall weekends — arrive earlier for best pick.
What folks are saying

Based on the 50 most recent Google reviews
Visitors appreciate the variety and quality of apples, the ability to drive and roam freely among the trees, and the bustling farm store with cider and donuts. Staff are described as direct and helpful. The $5 per-person entry fee and vehicle checks at exit are major points for discussion—some see them as practical, others find them impersonal. Crowds spike during harvest weekends in September and October; earlier season and midweek are quieter. Soft serve and cider donuts earn frequent praise, and the orchard is popular with repeat families.
