The Bavarian Manor sits on a rise above Purling, its clapboard facade catching evening sunlight and the perfume of damp woods. Inside, floors creak, the dining room thuds with local stories, and mornings start with coffee and lake mist.

What to Expect:

🪟 Simple, old-fashioned rooms—some with fireplaces or whirlpool tubs
🍳 Hot breakfast included for overnight guests
    🐾 Pet-friendly rooms available
🎻 Live music and dinner offered on select nights (call ahead)
🎣 On-site lake stocked for fishing; porch for evening unwinding

Important Information:

✔ Individually styled rooms; no elevator—stairs required for most
✔ Some rooms have uneven floors and quirks typical of a 160-year-old inn
✔ Front desk hours limited; after-hours check-in by prior arrangement only
✔ Always confirm restaurant operating days and accessibility needs before booking

Haley's Pick 🍽️

You probably know her as @milehighandhungry. Each week, Haley shares the one place she’s obsessed with right now. From hidden gems to hot new openings, if she picks it, it’s worth the hype.

Haley's Review of Riot BBQ
Riot BBQ on South Delaware feels like a backyard cookout run by a Top Chef, because it is. Chef Manny Barella and pitmaster Patrick Klaiber have teamed up to blend Monterrey flavors with Texas-style smoke, and the results are seriously craveable.

The brisket steals the show: tender, deeply smoky, and finished with Barella’s bold spice rub. Get it solo or wrapped in buttery Raquelita tortillas. The pulled pork brings heat with ancho, guajillo, and morita chiles, and the al pastor ribs are sticky, sweet, and slightly charred in all the right ways.

Even the sides are insanely good! Think crunchy pepita-macha slaw and banana pudding served in a jar that tastes just like childhood (but better). Every bite feels intentional.

It’s barbecue with heart, history, and just the right amount of heat. Riot BBQ isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment worth lining up for.

Local Insights

🍂 Autumn Porch Views: Book during late September–mid October for the best seat when sugar maples turn red across the pond.

🥾 Secret Trailhead: The Purling Brook waterfall trail starts just behind the hotel—ask staff for the less-used entry.

🔥 Fireplace Tip: Not all fireplace rooms have working hearths—call the desk to confirm which ones actually do.

☕ Nearby Breakfast: When the in-house breakfast runs low, Log Cabin Café three minutes up the road serves strong coffee and house-baked muffins.

What folks are saying

Based on the 50 most recent Google reviews
Long-running Catskills inn with historic bones, creaky stairs, and a true sense of place. Guests praise the friendly, old-school staff and like the included breakfast. Cleanliness, sheets, and comfort are hit-or-miss—common gripes include dated decor, strong sulfur smell in water, thin and bumpy floors, minimal maintenance, and limited amenities. Noise and late-night service issues show up in reviews, especially on busy weekends. Best experienced by those expecting quirks and forgiving of rough edges.
